Several titles ranging from triple-A open-worlds to indie 2D platformers have been released this year, with games from every genre touching our hearts. Sequels to major titles were released along with new games that immediately received massive amount of praise from fellow gamers.

10. Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands
Release Date: March 7 (Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, Xbox One)
Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands is a tactical shooter video game developed by Ubisoft Paris and published by Ubisoft. The game takes place in Bolivia in July 2019. Players play as members of the Delta Company, First Battalion, 5th Special Forces Group, also known as “Ghosts”, a fictional elite special operations unit of the United States Army under the Joint Special Operations Command.
Upon release, the game received generally positive reviews with praise given to the game’s shooting mechanics, visuals, and design of Bolivia. Even before its release, Wildlands was nominated for IGN’s “E3 2015 Game of the Show”, “Best PlayStation 4 Game”, “Best Xbox One Game” and “Best PC Game” awards.
9. Injustice 2

Injustice 2 is a fighting video game developed by NetherRealm Studios and published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. Players compete in one-on-one combat using characters from the DC Universe and other third-party franchises. The game’s storyline centers around Batman and his insurgency’s attempt to restore society after the fall of Superman’s regime in Injustice: Gods Among Us.
Injustice 2 received positive reviews from critics, who praised its story, presentation, improved gameplay mechanics, and character customization options. It topped the United Kingdom’s multi-platform physical sales chart during its first two weeks after launch, with the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions simultaneously taking the first and second spots, respectively. 8. Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice

Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice, or simply Hellblade, is a dark fantasy psychological horror action-adventure video game developed and published by Ninja Theory. Inspired by Norse mythology and Celtic Culture, Hellblade follows Senua, a Pict warrior who must make her way to Helheim by defeating otherworldly entities and facing their challenges, in order to rescue the soul of her dead lover from the goddess Hela.
Hellblade was a commercial success and received very positive reviews from video game critics, who praised it as a work of art and applauded its uncommon choice of revolving around psychosis, the quality and uniqueness of its approach of the condition, and its story and main character. At the annual TIGA Awards, the game won the award for “Best Action and Adventure Game”, and received five nominations at The Game Awards 2017, winning “Best Audio Design”, and “Best Performance” for Melina Juergens.
7. Destiny 2

Destiny 2 is an online-only multiplayer first-person shooter video game developed by Bungie and published by Activision. Set in a mythic science fiction world, the game features a multiplayer shared-world environment with elements of role-playing games. Players assume the role of a Guardian, protectors of Earth’s last safe city as they wield a power called Light to protect the Last City from different alien races.

Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus is an action-adventure first-person shooter video game developed by MachineGames and published by Bethesda Softworks. The game won numerous accolades including the “Best Art Direction”, “Best Independent Game”, and “Best Debut Indie Game” at The Game Awards 2017.
4. Assassin’s Creed Origins
Release Date: October 27 (Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, Xbox One)
Assassin’s Creed Origins is an action-adventure video game developed by Ubisoft Montreal and published by Ubisoft. The game is set in Egypt during the Ptolemaic period (48 BC) and explores the origins of the centuries-long conflict between the Brotherhood of Assassins, who fight for peace by promoting liberty, and The Order of the Ancients—forerunners to the Templar Order—who desire peace through the forced imposition of order. The player takes on the role of a Medjay named Bayek and his wife Aya, as they work to protect the people of the Ptolemaic Kingdom during a time of widespread upheaval.

Sales of Assassin’s Creed Origins during its first 10 days were 100% higher than Assassin’s Creed Syndicate, while player engagement also saw an increase. At release, the game was well received by critics, who praised the open world, story, visuals, combat, and the character of Aloy. It was the best-selling launch of an original IP on the PlayStation 4 console, selling over three million copies by June 2017, making it the second best-selling PlayStation 4 game. Horizon Zero Dawn won the award for “Best Original Game” at the Game Critics Awards in 2015 and 2016, along with several accolades.
